david-sklarDavid Sklar is an award-winning designer whose work has been featured in numerous national and international publications. Mr. Sklar holds a Professional Degree in Architecture from the University of Tennessee and has a multi-faceted background with experience in resort, residential and commercial design projects of all sizes. Mr. Sklar was a developer and licensed general contractor in Maryland for ten years.  During that time, he owned and operated two design-build firms, working primarily on single family custom residential projects and waterfront and marina developments of up to 40 units.    In recent years, Mr. Sklar has focused his vision on environmentally conscious design and development.  In recognition of his innovative eco-sensitive design solutions, Mr. Sklar was recently appointed to NEWSWEEK’s Global Environment Leadership Advisory Board.  Mr. Sklar is also the successful Founder and CEO of DALU Design Group located in Savannah, GA where Mr. Sklar continues to be a pioneer in the field of eco-tecture with the creation of cutting edge green projects such as Star Island Bahamas.  Star Island is a 35-acre, uninhabited private island ten minutes from Harbour Island, off the coast of North Eleuthera. In partnership with some of the country’s leading experts in alternative power, we have created a new green, clean-energy model that will deliver a carbon-neutral footprint when fully operational.  Innovative design, highly efficient construction and a mix of solar, wind, hydro and bio-fuels will provide residents and visitors alike guilt-free luxury in a “pure-paradise.”

In addition to 45 single family green homes, the development will prepare the land for the building of two hotel-condominium buildings consisting of 12 units each, and 20 private water’s edge bungalows.  The Developer will develop the full infrastructure of the island, hotel-condominium units, private waterfront homes, water’s edge bungalows, and the amenities, which will feature a marina, world-class spa, fitness center, multiple restaurants, retail shops, tennis courts and a helipad.  Most structures on the Island will be built employing a propriety green building system (The Ceras System™) developed by Mr. Sklar.
Star Island is receiving extensive media attention. The island has been featured in Newsweek and on ABC News, and Travel and Leisure gave it a full page in the November issue.  The New York Times travel section has named the island its eco-destination of the year.  The principals also presented the project at the United Nations by invitation on February 3, 2009.  The Travel Channel has taped a segment on the Island that will air this summer.
The Ceras System™ is a rapid-assembly building construction system.  It is lightweight, strong, eco-friendly, and easy to assemble.  The Ceras System will feature innovative green materials that will provide structural integrity engineered to withstand hurricane force winds and luxurious interior finishes.  The Ceras System can be assembled on-site with no special training using simple tools; consequently, no cranes or other heavy equipment will be required for erection.  Unlike any other permanent-structure building system, the Ceras System structures will employ sustainable materials, as mentioned, and will be pre-engineered to receive solar panels and to harvest rainwater.
