In addition, he has been the inaugural Director of the NTU Leung Center for Cosmology and Particle Astrophysics (LeCosPA) since 2008.

Professor  Chen is an internationally recognized physicist with numerous contributions in various fields of physics, including high energy particle physics, plasma physics, beam physics, and cosmology and astrophysics. He was elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1994. He is two-time recipient of the international Gravity Research Foundation Essay Competition Award, in 1995 and 2001. He was awarded the Outstanding Scholar Fellowship by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education in 2006. He was awarded the Y.T. Lee Chair Professorship in 2007 by Taiwan’s Outstanding Scholarship Foundation.
