Course Criteria

Below is an overview of the criteria used to evaluate courses that are applying for the World Education Council (WEC) Seal of Excellence certification.

  • Each course is developed with a clear mission and purpose, including content areas, target audience, and expected results of the program.
  • The course addresses educational and/or professional needs of students, with educational exercises and information appropriate for the setting, objectives, and desired outcomes.
  • The course is learner-centred and provides a mechanism for feedback.
  • The course provider manages and facilitates ongoing student support where applicable.
  • The course provider analyzes changes in learners (competence and performance outcomes) achieved as a result of the overall course content and design.
  • The course provider/manager uses reports from a learner management system.
  • The course includes content that is independent of any commercial interest of the subject matter expert(s) and facilitator(s) of the course.
  • On an ongoing basis, the course provider identifies, plans, and implements needed changes in order to continue to adequately meet the overall mission of the course.

If the course meets all of the criteria as set forth by the WEC Standards of Excellence Committee along with a submission of a final processing fee of 149 Euros, the course may display the WEC Seal of Excellence certification mark alongside course listings in course catalogues, on websites, in promotional materials and more.  After twelve months, the committee requests submissions of any updates made to the course. The WEC Standards of Excellence Committee will then review the course. Once approved, the course must pay an annual maintenance fee of 79 Euros.  This will ensure a continued listing on the WEC approved courses list that will be posted on the WEC website, be utilized in press releases and permits continued WEC affiliation.
